National park · reefs
Ras Mohammed
Egypt’s first protected park (1983), which has grown from 97 to 480 km². Abundant, colourful marine life at Shark & Yolanda Reef, Jack Fish Alley and Shark Observatory. One of the best areas of the northern Red Sea.
Reefs
Strait of Tiran
Jackson Reef, with spectacular, very photogenic coral walls; Wood House, with coral gardens and turtles; and Gordon Reef, with a great variety of fish.
Wreck
Dunraven
A 19th-century steamship next to Beacon Rock, at the tip of Sinai, surrounded by abundant life.
Wreck · about 30 m
SS Thistlegorm
A British cargo ship sunk in 1941, in the middle of the Second World War. Trucks, motorbikes and military equipment are still in its holds, covered in coral. You dive it outside and inside, among schools of fish and turtles. One of the best wrecks in the world.
Wrecks
Abu Nuhas and Gubal
The ship graveyard of the Red Sea:
  • Giannis D (about 28 m): a Greek cargo ship that sank in 1983, very well preserved. Sharks and colourful fish.
  • Carnatic (about 30 m): a steamship that sank in 1869, with remains of pottery and lots of life.
  • Ulysses: a British steamship that sank in 1887 next to Gubal island, with corals and turtles.
Reef · Hurghada
Sha'ab El Erg (Dolphin House)
A large horseshoe-shaped reef north of Hurghada, with coral gardens. Famous because dolphins are often around.

Fauna: Turtles on the Thistlegorm, the Ulysses and at Wood House; schools of fish and sharks on the Giannis D.
