Dive sites

Reef · Hurghada
Sha'ab El Erg (Dolphin House)
A large horseshoe-shaped reef north of Hurghada, with coral gardens. Famous because dolphins are often around.
National park · reefs
Ras Mohammed
Egypt’s first protected park (1983), which has grown from 97 to 480 km². Abundant, colourful marine life at Shark & Yolanda Reef, Jack Fish Alley and Shark Observatory. One of the best areas of the northern Red Sea.
Wreck · about 30 m
SS Thistlegorm
A British cargo ship sunk in 1941, in the middle of the Second World War. Trucks, motorbikes and military equipment are still in its holds, covered in coral. You dive it outside and inside, among schools of fish and turtles. One of the best wrecks in the world.
Wrecks · ship graveyard
Abu Nuhas
The reef that has sunk more ships than any other in the Red Sea, with several wrecks a few minutes apart:
  • Giannis D (about 28 m): a Greek cargo ship that sank in 1983 after hitting the reef, very well preserved. Turtles and colourful fish.
  • Carnatic (about 30 m): a steamship that sank in 1869, with remains of its pottery cargo. Tuna and groupers.
  • Yellow Reef: a reef of living corals full of life.
Wall · open water
Brothers Islands
Two islets in the open sea, with almost untouched coral walls and excellent visibility. The place to look for hammerheads and oceanic whitetip sharks. Currents can be strong.
Wreck · Safaga
Salem Express
A ferry that sank off Safaga in 1991. A dive full of history, done with respect and surrounded by marine life.
Reef · Safaga
Panorama Reef
Impressive coral formations and a huge variety of fish. Ideal for a night dive.

Fauna: Hammerheads and tuna at Brothers, groupers on the Carnatic, turtles on the Giannis D.
