Frequently asked questions

Before you board

What is a diving liveaboard?

It is a trip where you sleep, eat and dive from the same boat for a week. It lets you reach reefs far from the coast, such as Brothers or Daedalus, that cannot be dived on day trips, and do between 18 and 20 dives.

Where do the expeditions depart from?

Our departures leave from the city of Hurghada, in Egypt, and some routes from Marsa Alam.

What diving level do I need?

On the northern routes (North & Brothers, North & Wrecks, Famous 5 and Deep North) the minimum certification is Open Water: your certification determines which dives and maximum depth you can do, and to complete the full programme you need an Advanced certification or equivalent. On the southern routes (BDE, Dolphins & Sharks and Deep South) the minimum certification is Advanced. If you don’t have it yet, you can get your Advanced on board during the week.

How much does a Red Sea liveaboard cost?

Our departures start from €1,150 per person in a double cabin. Ask us about special prices for groups and dive centres.

What is included in the price?

7 nights in a double cabin, full board, 18–20 dives, Nitrox for certified divers (on departures where this is stated on the page, Nitrox is paid on board together with the fees), 12-litre tank, weight belt and weights, and airport–boat–airport transfers. Not included: flights, visa, equipment rental, insurance, and fees and tips. Marine park fees and tips, equipment rental and courses are paid on board, in cash and in euros.

Can I rent equipment on board?

Yes. Full equipment costs €225 per week and includes wetsuit, BCD, regulator, fins, booties, mask, SMB, dive computer and torch. Without computer and torch it is €175. We also rent individual items and 15-litre tanks.

How do I pay for my booking?

40% of the cabin price on booking and the remaining 60% two months before departure. If you book less than two months before departure, you pay 100% of the cabin on booking. Once you fill in the form with all your booking details, we will send you the booking document with everything you need to make your payments by bank transfer. Marine park fees and tips, equipment rental and courses are paid on board, in cash and in euros.

Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt?

Yes, you need a visa to enter Egypt. You can buy it at the arrival airport, at the counters before passport control. It costs 30 US dollars (USD) per person and allows a stay of up to 30 days. We recommend bringing the exact amount in cash, as change is not always available. Remember that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Dive insurance is mandatory to board, and we will ask you for proof before departure. We also strongly recommend travelling with travel insurance, which you can get with a discount from IATI Seguros.
